FACT SHEET FOR S.B. 1225

 

appropriation; developmental disabilities services providers

Purpose

            Appropriates $508,600 from the state General Fund (GF) and $1,176,000 from the federal Developmental Disabilities Medicaid Expenditure Authority (Authority) in FY 2019 to the Department of Economic Security (DES) for assistance to developmental disabilities services providers.

Background

            The Division of Developmental Disabilities is housed within DES and provides services to individuals and families with disabilities by offering home and community-based aid, residential and day programs and services for children. DES is permitted to use state and federal appropriated monies to assist in the establishment and maintenance of local developmental disability services by a public or private nonprofit or for-profit agency (A.R.S. § 36-557).

            S.B. 1225 appropriates $508,600 from the state GF in FY 2019 to DES.

Provisions

1.      Appropriates $508,600 from the state GF and $1,176,000 from the Authority in FY 2019 to DES for onetime emergency assistance to developmental disabilities services providers.

2.      Requires DES to distribute monies to developmental disabilities services providers that experience the highest mandated labor cost increases in a northern Arizona service area designated by the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System Administration.

3.      Becomes effective on the general effective date.
