navigable stream adjudication commission; extension
Purpose
Extends the Arizona Navigable Stream Adjudication Commission (Commission) through June 30, 2024.
Background
The Commission consists of five appointed members charged with determining which Arizona rivers and streams were navigable and non-navigable at the time of Statehood. Appointed members must be well-informed on issues relating to Arizona rivers and streams. Members are prohibited from receiving monies based on ownership claims or possessory interests over the affected lands.
Current statute terminates the Commission on June 30, 2020 (A.R.S. § 37-1121).
There is no anticipated fiscal impact to the state General Fund associated with this legislation.
Provisions
1. Extends the Commission through June 30, 2024.
2. Reverts monies appropriated to the Commission that remain unexpended and unencumbered to the state General Fund on July 1, 2024.
3. Specifies that the Commission's member terms end on July 1, 2024.
4. Makes technical and conforming changes.
5. Becomes effective on the general effective date.
