ARIZONA STATE SENATE
Fifty-Fourth Legislature, First Regular Session
vehicle insurance cards; assigned numbers
Purpose
Requires the number assigned to an insurer by the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) to be included on an insurance card instead of all documentary evidence issued by an insurer.
Background
Current statue requires documentary evidence issued by an insurer or an authorized agent of the insurer to indicate all of the following: 1) the number that ADOT assigns to the insurer; 2) the mailing address and telephone number of the insurer; 3) other information required by ADOT; and 4) if a binder is issued by an agent of the insured, the name address and telephone number of the agent. Insurers are also required to issue two insurance identification cards for a motor vehicle that state: 1) that a person is required to possess evidence of financial responsibility within the motor vehicle; 2) that the card or an image of the card displayed on a wireless communication device meets the financial responsibility requirement; and 3) that the card or image displayed is satisfactory evidence if the person is asked by ADOT to verify financial responsibility (A.R.S. § 28-4133).
There is no anticipated fiscal impact to the state General Fund associated with this legislation.
Provisions
1. Requires the number assigned to an insurer by ADOT to be included on a motor vehicle insurance card rather than on all documentary evidence issued by an insurer.
2. Makes technical and conforming changes.
3. Becomes effective on the general effective date.
