Purpose
Exempts the Arizona Office of Tourism (AOT) from statutory procurement requirements for a specified event.
Background
The Arizona Procurement Code regulates the buying, purchasing, renting, leasing and acquiring of materials, services and construction services using public monies (A.R.S. Title 41, Chapter 23). The Arizona Procurement Code applies to every expenditure of public monies by Arizona through a state government unit with outlined exceptions (A.R.S. § 41-2501). Current law requires the State Treasurer to appropriate $1,500,000 per fiscal year to the AOT for the promotion and marketing of a special sporting event at a host facility if the special sporting event project cost incurred after December 31, 2016, is at least $100,000,000 (A.R.S. § 41-2308).
There is no anticipated fiscal impact to the state General Fund associated with this legislation.
Provisions
1. Exempts the AOT from the Arizona Procurement Code requirements for promotion and marketing contracts for a special sporting event at a host facility.
2. Becomes effective on the general effective date.
