appropriation; Mount Lemmon fire district
Purpose
Appropriates $750,000 from the state General Fund (GF) for the construction of a water line in the Mount Lemmon Fire District.
Background
The Department of Forestry and Fire Management (DFFM) is responsible for land management practices and the suppression of wildland fires on state land and private properties located outside of cities and towns (A.R.S. § 37-1301).
Fire districts are political subdivisions that operate independently of city or county governments to provide rescue, firefighting and emergency services. Fire districts are special taxing districts that are funded through levied property taxes, but may also receive donations, gifts and appropriations towards the enforcement of district fire code and construction of buildings and infrastructure necessary for district-wide fire protection and emergency services (A.R.S. § 48-805).
H.B. 2438 appropriates $750,000 from the state GF in FY 2020.
Provisions
1. Appropriates $750,000 from the state GF to the DFFM in FY 2020 to be distributed to the Mount Lemmon Fire District to construct a water line.
2. Exempts the appropriation from lapsing.
3. Reverts unencumbered monies on December 31, 2021, to the state GF.
4. Becomes effective on the general effective date.
