ARIZONA STATE SENATE

administratively recommended wilderness; urging Congress
Purpose
Urges the U.S. Congress to prohibit federal agencies from recommending and identifying Arizona's public lands as wilderness areas without express consent.
Background
The Wilderness Act of 1964 defines a wilderness area as an area of undeveloped federal land without permanent improvements or human habitation to preserve its natural conditions.
There is no anticipated fiscal impact to the state General Fund associated with this legislation.
Provisions
1. Urges the U.S. Congress to prohibit federal agencies from recommending and identifying Arizona's public lands as wilderness areas without express congressional, state and local consent.
2. Instructs the Arizona Secretary of State to transmit copies of the memorial to the President of the U.S. Senate, the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives and each member of Arizona's congressional delegation.
