FACT SHEET FOR H.C.R. 2014

 

American viticultural area; designation

Purpose

Encourages and supports efforts by the Arizona Department of Agriculture (AZDA) to achieve American Viticultural Area (AVA) designation for all wine grape-growing areas in Arizona.

Background

            An AVA is a grape-growing region with distinguishing features regarding climate, geology, soils, physical features and elevation. AVA petitions are administered by the U.S. Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (27 C.F.R. § 9).

            There is no anticipated fiscal impact to the state General Fund associated with this legislation.

Provisions

1.      Expresses the Arizona Legislature's support and encourages efforts by the AZDA to achieve AVA wine grape-growing designation for all wine grape-growing areas within Arizona.
