Fifty-fourth Legislature

Second Regular Session

HB 2274: appropriation; Lower Lake Mary

Sponsor:  Representative Thorpe, LD 6

Committee on Natural Resources, Energy & Water

Overview

Appropriates $1,500,000 from the state General Fund to the Arizona Game and Fish Department (Department) in FY 2021 to design and construct Lower Lake Mary number two.

History

Lake Mary consists of two reservoirs that provide water supplies to Flagstaff. Lower Lake Mary, which is the smaller reservoir, was created when a dam was built in 1905 to capture surface waters from the Walnut Creek watershed. Due to irregular water flows and high infiltration rates, an additional dam (along with a water treatment plant) was constructed in 1941, which created Upper Lake Mary (City of Flagstaff).
