Overview

Provides funding from the General Fund in FY 2021 to the State Treasurer for a onetime distribution to counties for highway and street purposes.

History

Arizona Constitution, Article IX, § 14, outlines the required distribution of monies derived from fees, excises or license taxes relating to registration, operation or use of vehicles on the public highways or streets or to fuels or any other energy source used for the propulsion of vehicles on the public highways or streets.

Monies distributed to counties, incorporated cities and towns must be used by them solely for highway and street purposes including costs of rights of way acquisitions and expenses related thereto, construction, reconstruction, maintenance, repair, roadside development, of county, city and town roads, streets and bridges and payment of principal and interest on highway and street bonds.

a)    $5,877,100 to Apache County;

b)    $6,960,200 to Cochise County;

c)    $8,171,000 to Coconino County;

d)    $3,268,400 to Gila County;

e)    $2,095,100 to Graham County;

f)     $750,100 to Greenlee County;

g)    $3,326,000 to La Paz County;

h)    $81,970,500 to Maricopa County;

i)      $10,073,100 to Mohave County;

j)      $6,991,600 to Navajo County;

k)    $35,883,400 to Pima County;

l)      $13,980,900 to Pinal County;

m)   $2,683,300 to Santa Cruz County;

n)    $9,507,000 to Yavapai County; and

o)    $8,974,500 to Yuma County. (Sec. 1)

2.    States that monies may be spent only for highway and street purposes, as prescribed by the Arizona constitution. (Sec. 1)

3.    Prohibits counties from spending monies distributed to them to enforce traffic laws or administer traffic safety programs. (Sec. 1)
