SB 1089: public records requests; contact information

Overview

Requires a person who is requesting public records to provide their name, address, phone number and email address, if any, to the public body before the custodian discloses the record.

History

Public records and other matters transcribed or kept by a public officer must be open to inspection by any person at all times during office hours (A.R.S. § 39-121).

Any person can request to examine or be furnished copies, printouts or photographs of any public record during regular office hours, or can request that the public records custodian mail a copy of a public record that is not available on the public body's website (A.R.S. § 39-121.01).

Provisions

1. Prohibits a custodian from disclosing a public record unless the person requesting the public record has provided their name, address, phone number and email address, if any, to the public body. (Sec. 1)
