SB 1445: suicide prevention training; school employees

Overview

Requires school counselor or school social worker training programs to develop or adopt evidence-based instruction on suicide awareness and prevention.

History

Each teacher training program in Arizona must develop or adopt evidence-based instruction on suicide awareness and prevention. This instruction must be provided to all teacher candidates in the training program and must include:

a) Training in suicide prevention;

b) Training to identify the warning signs of suicidal behavior in adolescents and teens; and

c) Appropriate intervention and referral techniques (A.R.S. § 15-1656).

Provisions

1. Requires school counselor or school social worker training programs to develop or adopt evidence-based instruction on suicide awareness and prevention and provide that instruction to candidates in the programs. (Sec. 2)
