SB 1524: military family relief fund; criteria

Overview

Modifies application eligibility requirements for financial assistance from the Military Family Relief Fund's (Fund) Post-9/11 Subaccount.

History

Pursuant to A.R.S. § 41-608.04, the Fund is established consisting of private donations, grants, bequests and any other monies received for the Fund's purpose. The Fund consists of both the Pre-9/11 and Post-9/11 Subaccounts. The Post-9/11 Subaccount provides financial assistance to post-9/11 service members and their families. The Post-9/11 Military Family Relief Advisory Committee determines the appropriate use of the monies in the Post-9/11 Subaccount. The service member of an applying family must have:

1)    Been deceased, wounded or injured or become seriously ill after September 11, 2001;

2)    Been deployed from a military base in Arizona;

3)    Claimed Arizona as the service member's home of record; or

4)    Been a member of the Arizona national guard at the time of deployment.

The assistance is based on financial need up to $20,000. Eligible assistance is as follows:

1)    Widows, widowers or dependent children of service members who died in the line of duty in a combat zone or a zone where the person was receiving hazardous duty pay for a stipend for living expenses for up to six months;

2)    An immediate family member for payment of costs of temporary residence near the medical facility where the service member or former service member is being treated, including living, travel and housing expenses; and

3)    An immediate family member, service member or former service member for living expenses and other appropriate expenses as determined by the Post-9/11 Military Relief Fund Advisory Committee.
