appropriation; ombudsman-citizens aide; attorney

Purpose

            Appropriates $199,700 and one full-time equivalent (FTE) position from the state General Fund (state GF) in FY 2021 to the Office of Ombudsman-Citizens Aide to hire an attorney and pay for operating costs.

Background

            The Ombudsman-Citizens Aide investigates the administrative acts of agencies. Upon receiving a complaint, the Ombudsman-Citizens Aide may investigate or refuse to investigate based on specified statutory criteria (A.R.S § 41-1377). The Ombudsman-Citizens' Aide must also appoint a deputy ombudsman and staff necessary to administer the duties of the Office of the Ombudsman-Citizens Aide (A.R.S. § 41-1376).

            S.B. 1407 appropriates $199,700 and one FTE position from the state GF in FY 2021.

Provisions

1.      Appropriates $199,700 and one FTE position from the state GF in FY 2021 to the Office of Ombudsman-Citizens' Aide to hire an additional attorney and to pay for operating costs.

2.      Becomes effective on the general effective date.
