ARIZONA STATE SENATE
Fifty-Fourth Legislature, Second Regular Session
AMENDED
Enduring Freedom Memorial; appropriation
Purpose
Requires the Arizona Department of Administration (ADOA) to use monies in the State Monument and Memorial Repair Fund (Fund) to alter or modify monuments or memorials and appropriates $21,422.91 from the Fund in FY 2021 to ADOA to alter or modify the Enduring Freedom Memorial.
Background
After legislative authorization, concepts for monuments and memorials are submitted to ADOA. ADOA is required to approve the final design, dimensions, location, maintenance requirements and any statement, declaration, writing or inscription on the proposed monument or memorial (A.R.S. § 41-1363). For any existing monument or memorial, concepts of proposed alterations or modifications are submitted to ADOA and must be completed within two years of approval (A.R.S. § 41-1364).
Administered by ADOA, the Fund consists of donations, monies from fund-raising activities, monies collected by proponents of a monument or memorial and grants received for monuments and memorials. Monies from the Fund are used for the maintenance, repair, reconditioning or relocation of monuments and memorials (A.R.S. § 41-1365).
The Enduring Freedom Memorial in the Wesley Bolin Plaza was approved by the Legislature in 2004 (Laws 2004, Ch. 206).
H.B. 2265 appropriates $21,422.91 from the Fund in FY 2021 to ADOA to add additional names to the Enduring Freedom Memorial.
