license plate designs
Purpose
Beginning January 1, 2021, requires the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) to standardize the font color, type and size on each license plate.
Background
ADOT provides one license plate to each registered vehicle. At the owner's request, ADOT shall provide one additional license plate for a vehicle with a requested special plate. The license plate shall display the number assigned to the vehicle and the name of Arizona and must be coated in an outlined reflective material. ADOT is required to decide the color and design that must be sufficient enough to be read in daylight from 100 feet away.
All other license plates shall be the same color as and a similar design to the license plate determined by ADOT, excluding certain special plates (A.R.S. § 28-2351).
There is no anticipated fiscal impact to the state General Fund associated with this legislation.
Provisions
1. Requires, beginning January 1, 2021, that each license plate and special plate to display Arizona in the same font color, type and size subject to ADOT's discretion.
2. Requires that each license plate display both letters and numerals in the same font color that is used to indicate Arizona on the license plate.
3. Makes conforming changes.
4. Becomes effective on the general effective date.
