ARIZONA STATE SENATE
Fifty-Fourth Legislature, Second Regular Session
ports of entry; seven-day entry.
Purpose
Urges the U.S. Congress to allow Arizona's international ports of entry to remain open seven days a week.
Background
International land ports of entry (ports of entry) receive passenger, pedestrian and cargo traffic from outside the United States and are managed by the U.S. General Services Administration and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) (U.S. GSA). CBP at ports of entry enforces customs, immigration and agricultural laws and regulations and assesses and inspects commercial cargo, including conducting inspections of agricultural commodities (CBP).
Arizona has 10 international ports of entry, 6 of which are ports of entry on the border between the United States and Mexico. Passenger processing is available at Arizona's international ports of entry seven days a week and cargo processing is available on certain days depending on the port of entry (CBP).
There is no anticipated fiscal impact to the state General Fund associated with this legislation.
Provisions
1. Urges the U.S. Congress to allow Arizona's international ports of entry to remain open seven days a week.
2. Directs the Arizona Secretary of State to transmit copies of the memorial to the President of the U.S. Senate, the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives and each member of Arizona's congressional delegation.
