AN ACT
Appropriating
monies to the arizona commerce authority.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:
Section 1. Appropriation; Arizona commerce authority; Washington D.C. internships; exemption
A. The sum of $300,000 is appropriated from the state general fund in fiscal year 2020-2021 to the Arizona commerce authority for Washington D.C. internships. The authority shall allocate the monies in equal proportions for each of the universities under the jurisdiction of the Arizona board of regents to provide student internships in Washington D.C.
B. The Arizona commerce authority may enter into an agreement with a third-party organization to provide the student internships if the third-party organization meets all of the following requirements:
1. Offers full-time, semester-long academic internships.
2. Is able to place as many student interns as needed by the universities.
3. Has experience placing students in internships for at least the previous ten consecutive years.
4. Has a dedicated staff to ensure that student interns have access to internships in the student interns' areas of interest.
5. Has fully furnished housing available for student interns.
6. Partners with other organizations based in Washington D.C. to provide internships.
7. Offers at least one academic course and a full-time internship schedule from Mondays through Thursdays.
C. The appropriation made in subsection A of this
section is exempt from the provisions of section 35-190, Arizona Revised
Statutes, relating to lapsing of appropriations.
