Overview

Specifies additional vehicles that must turn off the roadway at the nearest turnout on a two-lane highway if five or more vehicle are formed behind it.

History

If a person is driving a vehicle, at less than the normal flow of traffic at the particular time and place on a two-lane highway where passing is unsafe and if five or more vehicles are formed in a line behind the vehicle, the person is required to turn the vehicle off the roadway at the nearest place designated as a turnout or wherever sufficient area for a safe turnout exists in order to allow the vehicles following to proceed (A.R.S. § 28-704).

Vehicle is defined as a device in, on or by which a person or property is or may be transported or drawn on a public highway. The definition excludes: 1) electric bicycles, 2) electric miniature scooters; 3) electric standup scooters; 4) devices moved by human power; 5) personal mobile cargo carrying devices; and 6) personal delivery devices (A.R.S. § 28-101).
