Fifty-fifth Legislature

First Regular Session

HB 2292: physician assistants; licensure; board.

Sponsor:  Representative Osborne, LD 13

House Engrossed

Overview

Allows the Arizona Regulatory Board of Physician Assistants (ARBoPA) to issue a new license to a physician assistant (PA) whose license was previously surrendered if the applicant demonstrates to the ARBoPA satisfaction that they are completely rehabilitated in regard to the conduct that was the basis of the surrender.

History

The ARBoPA licenses qualified PAs and is responsible for protecting the public from unlawful, incompetent, unqualified, impaired or unprofessional PAs through licensing, regulating, investigating patient complaints against PAs and taking disciplinary action against their licensees. ARBoPA currently licenses and regulates over 1,000 PAs in Arizona.

ARBoPA can initiate formal proceedings to suspend or revoke a license if ARBoPA finds information warranting a suspension or revocation (A.R.S. § 32-2551).

Statute allows ARBoPA to issue a new license to a PA whose license was previously revoked if ARBoPA determines the applicant is completely rehabilitated from the conduct that was the basis of the revocation (A.R.S. § 32-2558).
