Overview

Directs the Secretary of State (SOS) to maintain and operate the driver license voter registration system with a committee of county recorders.

History

Any person who applies for a driver license or renewal and who is otherwise qualified to register to vote will, at the same time and place, be allowed to register to vote by providing the information prescribed by statute.  Upon completion of a form that contains the information prescribed in statute and on receipt of that form by the county recorder from the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT), the applicant is presumed to be properly registered to vote.

At least every two years, ADOT and the SOS must consult regarding voter registration at driver license offices.  Within five days after receipt of a completed registration, ADOT is required to return or mail completed registrations to the county recorder of the county in which the applicant resides (A.R.S. § 16-112).

Provisions

1.   Requires, beginning no later than December 31, 2023, the SOS to maintain and operate the driver license voter registration system with a committee of county recorders that is selected by a statewide county recorder membership group. (Sec. 1)

2.   Mandates that the contract require the website address for access to the system use the top-level domain .gov or .vote if the SOS and committee of county recorders contract with a third party for the operation and maintenance of the driver license voter registration system. (Sec. 1)
