HB 2362: elections; ballot privacy folders

Sponsor:  Representative Kavanagh, LD 23

Committee on Government & Elections

Overview

Includes a ballot privacy folder in what is given to a qualified elector in addition to their ballot.

History

Before receiving a ballot, a qualified elector (elector) must announce their name and place of residence in a clear, audible tone of voice to the election official in charge of the signature roster or present their name and residence in writing. The elector must present a valid form of identification as outlined in statute.

If the elector does not present a valid form of identification, the elector is only eligible to vote a provisional ballot or conditional provisional ballot. Current law requires each elector to be numbered consecutively by the clerks and in order of application of ballots. The judge must give the qualified elector only one ballot and the electors name must immediately be checked on the precinct register (A.R.S. § 16-579).
