Summary of the Strike-Everything Amendment to HB 2420
Overview
Requires a county board of supervisors to accept monies meant to supplement the approved budget of a law enforcement or prosecution agency.
History
Current law designates the powers of a county to be exercised by the board of supervisors or agents or officers acting under the board's authority. These include the powers to:
1) Sue and be sued;
2) Purchase and hold land within county limits;
3) Make contracts and purchase and hold personal property as necessary;
4) Mandate the use of its property as the interests of the inhabitants of the county require;
5) Levy and collect taxes under its exclusive jurisdiction; and
6) Determine the budgets of all elected and appointed county officers (A.R.S. § 11-201).
Provisions
1. Requires a county board of supervisors to accept for federal grant monies, award monies or other monies (monies) meant to supplement the approved budget of a law enforcement or prosecution agency if the agencies are eligible and qualified for the monies. (Sec. 2)
2. Restricts a county board of supervisors from rejecting or interfering with monies meant to supplement a law enforcement or prosecution agency. (Sec. 1)
