Overview
Adjusts the salaries of county officials and superior court clerks. Removes the requirement that the county populations for the county officer salaries be determined by the latest preceding decennial census.
History
A.R.S. § 11-419 prescribes, by county population as determined by the most recent federal decennial census, the salaries for the county attorney, assessor, recorder, sheriff, superintendent of schools, supervisor and treasurer. These salaries were last increased in the 2007 Legislative Session. The current annual salaries from statute are listed below.

The annual salary of the clerk of the superior court is determined by the population of the county in which the clerk serves as determined by the latest federal decennial census. If the population of the county is 500,000 people or greater, the salary of the superior court clerk is $76,600. If the population of the county is less than 500,000 people, the salary of the superior court clerk is $63,800. These salaries were last increased in the 2005 Legislative Session (A.R.S. § 12-281).
The annual salary of the clerk of the superior court is reviewed biennially by the commission on salaries for elective state officers (A.R.S. § 41-1903).
Provisions
1. Increases the salary of certain county officers prescribed in statute. (Sec. 1)
2. Repeals the requirement that the county populations for the officer salaries be determined by the latest preceding federal decennial census. (Sec. 1)
3. Prescribes dates for when these salaries are effective. (Sec. 1)
4. Removes archaic language. (Sec. 1)
5. Makes technical and conforming changes. (Sec. 1)
Senate Amendments
1. Increases the salary of superior court clerks in counties with a population of 500,000 or more people from $76,600 to $96,600.
2. Increases the salary of superior court clerks in counties with a population less than 500,000 from $63,800 to $83,800.
3. Makes technical and conforming changes.
4. Contains an effective date of January 1, 2023 for the increase of the salary of superior court clerks.
