HB 2817: appropriation; hazardous vegetation removal

Overview
Appropriates $2.2 million from the state General Fund (GF) to the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management (DFFM) in fiscal year (FY) 2022 for hazardous vegetation removal.
History
The State Forester is appointed by the Governor to lead DFFM. This agency helps manage certain lands within Arizona and prevents and suppresses wildland fires on state lands and private property located outside of municipalities (A.R.S. § 37-1301).
Since FY 2015, the Legislature has appropriated monies from the state GF to DFFM in the following amounts to support programs that remove hazardous vegetation from state and private lands:
· $1.35 million in FYs 2015 through 2018 (Laws 2014, Chapter 18, § 36, Laws 2015, Chapter 8, § 42, Laws 2016, Chapter 117, § 45 and Laws 2017, Chapter 305, § 41);
· $2 million in FY 2019 (Laws 2018, Chapter 276, § 39); and
$3 million in FYs 2020 and 2021 (Laws 2019, Chapter 263, § 41 and Laws 2020, Chapter 58, § 36).
