Summary of the Strike-Everything Amendment to HB 2845
Overview
Creates the Unemployment Insurance Study Committee (Study Committee).
History
The Arizona Department of Economic Security provides employment programs and services, including Unemployment Insurance (UI). UI provides temporary financial relief to eligible workers who separate from their previous employers at no fault of their own and are able to work, available for work and actively seeking work. The amount of monetary benefit a worker is eligible to receive is based on insured wages paid to the worker during a one-year period called the base period. The base period is the first four of the last five completed calendar quarters before the worker files for a benefit claim. Currently, the amount is capped at $240 per week for up to 26 weeks.
