Summary of the Strike-Everything Amendment to SB 1269
Overview
Restricts a political subdivision of this state from enacting any measure directing the professional conduct of a health care professional.
History
In Arizona, a health profession regulatory board regulates, certifies and licenses various health professions under Title 32, including: 1) podiatry; 2) chiropractic; 3) dentistry; 4) medicine and surgery as a physician; 5) naturopathic medicine; 6) nursing; 7) dispensing opticians; 8) optometry; 9) osteopathic medicine; 10) pharmacy; 11) physical therapy; 12) psychology; 13) veterinary medicine; 14) medicine as a physician assistant; 15) radiologic technology; 16) homeopathic medicine; 17) behavioral health; 18) occupational therapy; 19) respiratory care; 20) acupuncture; 21) athletic training; 22) massage therapy; 23) nursing care institutions and assisted living facilities; 24) midwifery; or 25) hearing aid dispensers, audiologists and speech-language pathologists (A.R.S. § 32-3201).
Provisions
1. States the licensure and regulation of health care professionals, including the determination of unprofessional conduct, is as expressed in the Arizona Revised Statutes and the rules adopted according to the Arizona Revised Statutes. (Sec. 1)
2. Restricts a political subdivision of this state from enacting any measure directing the professional conduct of a health care professional. (Sec. 1)
3. Defines health care professional as a licensed or certified individual who provides mental health therapy as part of the individual's profession. (Sec. 1)
