SB 1281: developmental disabilities advisory council; continuation
Sponsor: Senator Pace, LD 25
House Engrossed
Overview
Continues the Developmental Disabilities Advisory Council (DDAC) for eight years.
History
Established in 1976, the DDAC is required to review and make recommendations to the Assistant Director of the Arizona Department of Economic Security's Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) regarding the coordination, integration, delivery and cost-effectiveness of services. DDAC provides oversight and approval of expenditures from the Client Developmental Disabilities Services Trust Fund.
The DDAC membership is composed of 15 voting members appointed by the Governor and two non-voting members. The membership must include at least five individuals who are clients, family members or guardians of individuals with developmental disabilities and an individual who is eligible for long-term care (A.R.S. § 36-553).
The DDAC is set to terminate on July 1, 2021 (A.R.S. § 41-3021.08). On December 17, 2020, the Senate Health and Human Services Committee of Reference (COR) conducted a public meeting to evaluate DDAC's response to sunset factors and receive public testimony. The COR recommended DDAC be continued for eight years until July 1, 2029 (Final COR Report).
