Overview
Continues the Arizona State Board of Podiatry Examiners (Board) for eight years.
History
The Board was established to protect the health, safety and welfare of the citizens of Arizona by regulating and maintaining the standards of practice in the field of podiatric medicine. The Board's duties include: 1) licensing and regulating podiatric doctors; 2) evaluating the professional competency of podiatrists seeking licensure; 3) investigating complaints; 4) holding hearings; 5) monitoring the activities of its licensees; and 6) enforcing the standards of practice for the podiatric profession.
The Board consists of five members appointed by the Governor to terms of five years. Statute requires the following members be appointed: 1) three licensed podiatrists who have practiced in Arizona for at least two consecutive years; and 2) two lay people (A.R.S. § 32-802).
Currently, the Board is scheduled to terminate July 1, 2021 (A.R.S. § 41-3021.14). On December 17, 2020, the Senate Health and Human Services Committee of Reference (COR) conducted a public meeting to evaluate the Board's response to sunset factors and receive public testimony. The COR recommended that Board be continued for eight years until July 1, 2029 (Final COR Report).
