FACT SHEET FOR H.B. 2461

DPS; body cameras; appropriations

Purpose

            Appropriates $1,500,000 from the state General Fund (state GF) in FYs 2022 through 2026 to the Department of Public Safety (DPS) to purchase and deploy body cameras.

Background

DPS is responsible for creating and coordinating services for use by local law enforcement agencies in protecting the public safety. DPS must formulate plans with a view to establish modern services for the prevention of crime, apprehension of violators, training of law enforcement personnel and promotion of public safety (A.R.S. § 41-1711).

            H.B. 2461 appropriates $1,500,000 from the state GF in FYs 2022 through 2026 to DPS.

Provisions

1. Appropriates $1,500,000 from the state GF in FYs 2022 through 2026 to DPS to purchase and deploy body cameras for DPS personnel.

2. Exempts the appropriations from lapsing.

3. Becomes effective on the general effective date.
