Purpose
Declares the legislature's support for the hardrock mining industry and the involvement of government and industry in any future regulatory changes to ensure safe and productive operations.
Background
The Arizona State Constitution established the Office of the State Mine Inspector to oversee mining operations in the state. The Mine Inspector is charged with overseeing the operation and equipment of all mines in the state and providing for the health and safety of mine workers as outlined by statute (Ariz. Const. art. 19).
There is no anticipated fiscal impact to the state General Fund associated with this legislation.
Provisions
1. Recognizes the importance of the hardrock mining industry to Arizona's economy.
2. Supports the involvement of Arizona's government and the hardrock mining industry in any future regulatory changes to ensure that operations continue to be safe and productive for Arizona.
