AN ACT

amending Title 15, chapter 13, article 4, Arizona Revised Statutes, by adding section 15-1672; appropriating monies; relating to universities.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:

Section 1. Title 15, chapter 13, article 4, Arizona Revised Statutes, is amended by adding section 15-1672, to read:

START_STATUTE15-1672. Appropriations; university of Arizona; hypersonic technology; exemption

A. In addition to any other appropriations made, the sum of $1,000,000 is appropriated from the state general fund in fiscal year 2022-2023 and each fiscal year thereafter to the University of Arizona to provide for operational expenses relating to hypersonic technology, including research, grants, development and system upgrades.

B. The appropriations made in subsection A of this section are exempt from the provisions of section 35-190 relating to lapsing of appropriations. END_STATUTE

Sec. 2. Appropriation; University of Arizona; hypersonic technology research and development; exemption

A. In addition to any other appropriations made in fiscal year 2021-2022, the sum of $4,500,000 is appropriated from the state general fund in fiscal year 2021-2022 to the University of Arizona for the research and development of hypersonic technology.  Of these monies, the University of Arizona shall use:

1. $3,500,000 for upgrades and infrastructure investment relating to university-owned hypersonic systems and technology.

2. $1,000,000 for operational expenses, grants and research related to hypersonic technology.

B. The appropriation made in subsection A of this section is exempt from the provisions of section 35-190, Arizona Revised Statutes, relating to lapsing of appropriations.
