A Concurrent Resolution
supporting climate change mitigation efforts in Arizona.
(TEXT OF BILL BEGINS ON NEXT PAGE)
Whereas, the climate crisis leads to decreased quality of life and increased costs across the planet, our nation and this state; and
Whereas, Arizona faces a hotter and drier future in which reservoirs will drop and forests will burn; and
Whereas, less water will hurt all of Arizona's economy, including agriculture, industry and tourism; and
Whereas, higher temperatures will mean more heat-related deaths, especially among vulnerable communities; and
Whereas, the climate crisis will strain Arizona's infrastructure, and taxpayers will bear those costs; and
Whereas, Arizona utilities must accelerate their transition to clean energy; and
Whereas, Arizonans deserve options from utilities to reduce their carbon footprint, which may include utility asset securitization, the ability of consumers to purchase renewable energy credits from their utilities and the introduction of Consumer Choice Aggregation; and
Whereas, transitioning to clean energy is a moral imperative.
Therefore
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of Arizona, the Senate concurring:
That the Members of the Legislature support efforts to make mitigating the climate crisis this state's highest priority by building resiliency to coming water shortages, shifting to a sustainable future and investigating options for utilities and consumers to transition to clean energy.
