Overview

Establishes the Arizona Dude Ranch Heritage Trail Program and outlines requirements for program participation.

History

The Arizona State Parks Board (Board) develops historical properties into state parks and historical monuments. It also administers the state's historic preservation program and the state historic property rehabilitation program through the State Historic Preservation Officer (SHPO), who is a Board employee. Additionally, it oversees the Arizona Register of Historic Places, which receives nominations from the SHPO (A.R.S. §§ 41-511.02, 41-511.04 and 41-881).

Provisions

1.   ☐ Prop 105 (45 votes)	     ☐ Prop 108 (40 votes)      ☐ Emergency (40 votes)	☐ Fiscal NoteEstablishes the Arizona Dude Ranch Heritage Trail Program in the Board.

2.   Authorizes the Board to designate a dude ranch for inclusion in this program if it meets all specified criteria.

3.   Instructs the Board to decide on designation within 30 days of receiving an application.

4.   Directs the Board, in collaboration with the largest dude ranch or guest ranch association, to create signs and indicia a ranch can use to identify and promote its designation.

5.   Requires the applicant to pay for the cost of designing and creating the plaque.

6.   Stipulates that the Board allow additions or modifications to a designated dude ranch if its original character is preserved.

7.   Creates the Arizona Dude Ranch Heritage Trail, which consists of designated dude ranches.

Senate amendments

1.   Deletes the requirement that the Board produce marketing and promotional materials to map Arizona dude ranches.
