HB 2543: appropriation; training simulators

Overview
Appropriates $800,000 in FY 2023 from the state General Fund (GF) to the State Treasurer for specified law enforcement agencies to obtain V-300 training simulators.
History
A V-300 is a decision-making and firearms training simulator. The V-300 simulator portrays true-to-life situations taken from actual events based on case law and after-action reports. (VirTra Website).
In FY 2017, the Arizona Legislature appropriated $2,100,000 from the Concealed Weapons Permit Fund to the Arizona Department of Public Safety to build seven different V-300 simulators around the state of Arizona (FY 2017 Appropriations Report).
In FY 2019, $2,503,000 from the Peace Officer Training Equipment Fund was used to build ten virtual firing ranges, three more V-300's and to maintain and service the seven existing simulators (FY 2019 Appropriations Report).
Provisions
1. Appropriates $800,000 in FY 2023 from the state GF to the State Treasurer to distribute to the following law enforcement agencies for V-300 training simulators:
a) $200,000 to the Arizona State University police department;
b) $200,000 to Coconino County sheriff;
c) $200,000 to Gila County sheriff; and
d) $200,000 to Santa Cruz County sheriff. (Sec. 1)
