Overview

Establishes the Alternative Prosecution and Diversion Program Fund (Fund) and appropriates $20,000,000 from the state General Fund (GF) in fiscal year (FY) 2023.

History

The Arizona Criminal Justice Commission (ACJC) was established by Laws 1982, Chapter 328 to carry out various coordinating, monitoring and reporting functions regarding the administration and management of criminal justice programs in Arizona. ACJC serves as the resource and service organization for Arizona's criminal justice community on numerous issues ranging from drugs, gangs and victim assistance to record improvement programs. ACJC is also responsible for facilitating information and data exchange among state-wide criminal justice agencies (A.R.S. § 41-2405).

 

Provisions

2.   Directs ACJC to allocate the Fund's monies to county attorneys for establishing and operating eligible alternative prosecution and diversion programs. (Sec. 1)

3.   Creates an annual reporting requirement for the use of the Fund's monies. (Sec. 1)

4.   Appropriates $10,000,000 from the state GF in FY 2023 to the Fund and exempts the funds from lapsing. (Sec. 2)
