HCM2008: Romania; visa waiver program

Overview

Expresses the Legislature's desire that the United States (U.S.) Congress includes Romania as a participating country of the Visa Waiver Program (VWP).

History

The VWP allows most citizens or nationals of participating counties to travel to the U.S. for tourism or business for stays of 90 days or less without obtaining a visa. There are currently 40 countries in the VWP (U.S. Department of State – Bureau of Consular Affairs).

Provisions

1.   ☐ Prop 105 (45 votes)	     ☐ Prop 108 (40 votes)      ☐ Emergency (40 votes)	☐ Fiscal NoteStates that the Legislature encourages the U.S. Congress to make changes to the VWP to allow Romania to become a participating country.

2.   Requests the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security work with Romanian officials to quickly bring Romania into the VWP.

3.   Directs the Secretary of the State of Arizona to transmit copies of this memorial to the President of the U.S. Senate, the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, each member of the U.S. Congress from the state of Arizona and the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
