ARIZONA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

Fifty-fifth Legislature

Second Regular Session

HCM 2009: department of agriculture; additional offices

Sponsor: Representative Cook, LD 8

Committee on Land, Agriculture & Rural Affairs

Overview

Urges the Farm Service Agency to open additional offices in Arizona.

History

The Farm Service Agency (FSA), which is within the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), offers various support programs and technical assistance to farmers and ranchers. It implements agricultural policy, administers credit and loan programs and manages conservation programs. FSA is also responsible for administering disaster and farm marketing programs.

There are currently nine FSA service centers in Arizona and a state office located in Phoenix. Many FSA service centers serve residents of two or more counties. For example, one FSA center provides services to residents of Coconino, Mohave and Yavapai Counties. A farmer or rancher in Gila County is serviced by the Holbrook FSA service center, which is located in Navajo County, or the state office in Phoenix.
