SB 1206: license plate design and color

Overview
Specifies design requirements for license plates.
History
The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) Motor Vehicle Division must provide one license plate to every motor vehicle owner for each vehicle registered. The license plate provided must display the number assigned to the vehicle and the owner of the vehicle. The plate must also display the name Arizona and be coated with a reflective material that is consistent with the standards of ADOT regarding the color and design of license and special plates. The Director must design the license plate and the letters and numerals on the license plate to be of a sufficient size to be clearly readable during daylight from 100 feet away (A.R.S. § 28-2351).
Provisions
1. Requires the background color of the license plate to contrast significantly with the color of the letters, numerals and the name Arizona on the license plate. (Sec. 1)
2. Requires the name Arizona to appear on the license plate in capital letters, in sans serif font and be three fourths of an inch in height. (Sec. 1)
3. Specifies that the design requirements do not apply to a new license plate redesign by ADOT before the general effective date. (Sec. 2)
4. Makes conforming changes. (Sec. 1)
