Overview

Appropriates $83,000,000 from the state General Fund (GF) in FY 2023 to the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) for various specified infrastructure projects.

History

Laws 1973, Chapter 146 established ADOT to provide for an integrated and balanced state transportation system with a director responsible for the department's administration (A.R.S. § 28-331). ADOT has exclusive control and jurisdiction over state highways, state routes, state-owned airports and all state-owned transportation systems or modes are vested in ADOT.

The duties of ADOT are as follows: 1) register motor vehicles and aircraft, license drivers, collect revenues, enforce motor vehicle and aviation statutes and perform related functions; 2) do multimodal state transportation planning, cooperate and coordinate transportation planning with local governments and establish an annually updated priority program of capital improvements for all transportation modes; 3) design and construct transportation facilities in accordance with a priority plan and maintain and operate state highways, state-owned airports and state public transportation systems; 4) investigate new transportation systems and cooperate with and advise local governments concerning the development and operation of public transit systems; and 5) have administrative jurisdiction of transportation safety programs and implement them in accordance with applicable law (A.R.S. § 28-332).

a)   $6,000,000 for design work for State Route 303 improvements from Interstate 17 to Lake Pleasant Parkway, including a traffic interchange at 67th Avenue;

b)   $9,000,000 for design work for the interchange at State Route 303 and Interstate 17;

c)   $5,000,000 for the realignment and Improvement of the traffic interchange on State Route 74 at Lake Pleasant Parkway;

d)   $10,000,000 for Estrella bridge improvements;

e)   $10,000,000 for grade separation and improvements at Val Vista Drive and the Union Pacific Railroad;

f) $6,000,000 for right of way acquisition for State Route 30 between State Route 303 and State Route 202;

g)   $10,000,000 for design work for road widening along State Route 101 between Interstate 10 and 75th Avenue;

h)   $5,000,000 for right of way acquisition for State Route 303 between Maricopa County Route 85 and Van Buren Street;

i)   $8,000,000 to distribute to the regional public transportation authority to extend fixed-route bus service along Bell Road from 75th Avenue to Reems Road for service beginning in FY 2024;

j)   $4,000,000 to design improvements to the intersection of State Route 87 and McDowell Road; and

k)   $10,000,000 to design improvements to State Route 202 from Main Street-Apache Trail to Gilbert Road. (Sec. 1)
