concealed weapons permit; renewal application
Purpose
Requires the Department of Public Safety (DPS) to send a renewal reminder notice and renewal application to a concealed weapon permit holder's last known address at least 60 days before the expiration date of the permit.
Background
DPS is required
to issue a permit to carry a concealed weapon to an applicant who is
statutorily qualified. The person must always carry the permit when in
possession of the concealed weapon. A concealed weapon permit is renewable every
five years, at which time a criminal history records check is conducted within
60 days after receipt of the renewal application (A.R.S.
§ 13-3112).
There is no anticipated fiscal impact to the state General Fund associated with this legislation.
Provisions
1. Requires DPS to send a renewal reminder notice and renewal application form to a concealed weapon permit holder's last known address at least 60 days before the expiration date of the permit.
2. Makes technical changes.
3. Becomes effective on the general effective date.
