ARIZONA STATE SENATE
Fifty-Fifth Legislature, Second Regular Session
pupils with chronic health conditions
Purpose
Replaces references to pupils with chronic health problems with pupils with chronic health conditions relating to the requirement for a governing board to adopt policies designed to provide continuing learning for and integration of the pupils.
Background
In consultation with parents, teachers and at least one health professional, a school district governing board must adopt policies and procedures concerning pupils with chronic health problems. The policies and procedures must be designed to provide continuing learning for the pupils while they are absent from school and provide for a pupil's integration into the regular education program as much as possible.
Pupils with chronic health problems are pupils who, as certified by a health professional: 1) are not homebound but are unable to attend regular classes for intermittent periods because of illness, disease, pregnancy complications or accident; 2) pupils who suffer from a condition requiring management on a long term basis; and 3) pupils who have an infant with a severe health problem (A.R.S. § 15-346).
There is no anticipated fiscal impact to the state General Fund associated with this legislation.
