ARIZONA STATE SENATE

appropriation; Jackrabbit Trail improvement
Purpose
Appropriates $22,600,000 from the state General Fund (state GF) in FY 2023 to the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) to distribute to the city of Buckeye to improve Jackrabbit Trail between Thomas Road and McDowell Road.
Background
ADOT is
responsible for the design and construction of state public transportation
systems and the maintenance and operation of state highways in Arizona (A.R.S.
§ 28-332). ADOT may contract and do all things necessary to secure the full
benefits available to Arizona for transportation purposes under federal law
and, in doing so, ADOT may cooperate with: 1) federal, state and local
government agencies; 2) Indian tribes; 3) private and public organizations; and
4) private individuals. ADOT may exchange federal monies with local governments
in order to receive local monies and is allowed to include additional federal
monies in the exchange to offset the matching costs required of local
governments (A.R.S.
§ 28-334).
S.B. 1652 appropriates $22,600,000 from the state GF in FY 2023 to ADOT.
Provisions
1. Appropriates $22,600,000 from the state GF in FY 2023 to ADOT to distribute to the city of Buckeye to improve Jackrabbit Trail between Thomas Road and McDowell Road.
2. Declares the Legislature's intent that the city of Buckeye contribute $2,500,000 to the project.
3. Becomes effective on the general effective date.
