Purpose
Appropriates $5,000,000 from the state General Fund (state GF) in FY 2023 to the University of Arizona (UA) to upgrade and operate the Arizona Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (AZVDL).
Background
The AZVDL is located in Tucson, Arizona and is run and operated by the UA. The AZVDL provides diagnostic assistance in animal health to veterinarians, animal owners, university researchers and state and federal agencies. The AZVDL works closely with the office of the State Veterinarian, U.S. Department of Agriculture, Arizona Game and Fish Department and other state and federal agencies. The AZVDL serves a diverse client base with submissions of wild animals, exotic zoo animals, pet animals, horses and food producing animals (AZVDL).
S.B. 1714 appropriates $5,000,000 from the state GF in FY 2023 to the UA.
Provisions
1. Appropriates $5,000,000 from the state GF in FY 2023 to the UA to upgrade and operate the AZVDL.
2. Becomes effective on the general effective date.
