technical correction; defrauding secured creditors

(NOW: Cochise county; detention facility; appropriation)

Purpose

Appropriates $20,000,000 from the state General Fund (state GF) in FY 2023 to the Arizona Department of Administration (ADOA) to distribute to Cochise County for the construction of a new detention facility.

Background

Jails are maintained by the sheriff of the county in which they are located (A.R.S.
§ 31- 101
). If an individual is arrested by a city or town and charged in municipal court, the cost of incarceration is paid by the city or town. However, if an individual is charged in the superior court or a justice court, the costs of incarceration are paid by the county (A.R.S. § 31-121). Cochise County is located in the southeastern corner of Arizona (A.R.S. § 11-104).

H.B. 2552 appropriates $20,000,000 from the state GF in FY 2023 to ADOA.

Provisions

1.   Appropriates $20,000,000 from the state GF in FY 2023 to ADOA to distribute to Cochise County for the construction of a new detention facility.

2.   Becomes effective on the general effective date.
