An Act
providing for a special audit by the auditor general of the counties in this state; appropriating monies.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:
Section 1. Auditor general review of counties; law enforcement; retention bonuses; appropriation; delayed repeal
A. Pursuant to section 41-1279.03, Arizona Revised Statutes, the auditor general shall perform a special audit of each county in this state to examine and ensure that the $48,310,000 distributed for payments to line-level deputies and detention officers employed by each county sheriff's office under Laws 2022, chapter 313, section 110, subsection A, paragraph 8, subdivision (a) is being used properly.
B. On or before December 31, 2023, the auditor general shall submit its report of the special audit to the governor, the president of the senate and the speaker of the house of representatives and provide a copy of this report to the secretary of state.
C. The sum of $70,000 is appropriated from the state general fund in fiscal year 2023-2024 to the auditor general for costs associated with performing the special audit prescribed in subsection A of this section.
D. This section is repealed from and after September 30, 2024.
