An Act
amending title 8, chapter 4, article 4, Arizona Revised Statutes, by adding section 8-509.02; relating to child welfare and placement.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:
Section 1. Title 8, chapter 4, article 4, Arizona Revised Statutes, is amended by adding section 8-509.02, to read:
8-509.02. Foster homes; inactive licenses
A. a foster home licensee who holds an active license pursuant to section 8-509 and whose license has not been previously revoked may request an inactive license from the department.
b. During the period of time a licensee holds an inactive license, the licensee is not eligible for placement of a child and is not subject to the renewal fees and training and visitation requirements that are prescribed for a foster home licensee who holds an active license.
c. An inactive license is valid for a period of five years. a licensee who holds an inactive license may apply to reactivate the license at any time during the five-year inactive period in the same manner as the renewal of an active license pursuant to section 8-509.
d. The department may terminate the license of a licensee who holds an inactive license and who does not reactivate the license by noon of the expiration date listed on the inactive license.
