SB 1144: electronic ballot adjudication; prohibition

Overview

Prohibits the electronic duplication and adjudication of ballots.

History

Provided the counting center has the necessary equipment and it has been certified for use by the Secretary of State, the officer in charge of elections may authorize the use of an electronic vote adjudication feature if:

1)   The electronic vote adjudication feature is included in the tabulation system's logic and accuracy testing;

2)   The officer in charge of elections appoints an electronic vote adjudication board consisting of specified members to determine if voter intent is clear on a portion or all of a ballot; and

3)   The electronic vote adjudication process meets specified requirements, such as the inclusion of a method to track and account for the original ballot and the digital duplicate of the ballot (A.R.S. § 16-621).
