SB 1335: deputy constable appointments; website notification

Overview

Requires the name of a deputy constable to be posted online within 10 business days after the deputy constable's appointment.

History

Constables attend Justice of the Peace courts within their precincts when required and, within their counties, execute, serve and return all warrants and notices delivered by a Justice of the Peace of the county. Constables may be elected or appointed by a county Board of Supervisors and only have the authority of a peace officer when performing their official duties.

A constable may appoint deputies with the consent of and at salaries fixed by the Board of Supervisors, provided those deputies are certified by the Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training Board (A.R.S. § 22-131).
