appropriation; Happy Valley Road
Purpose
Appropriates $12,500,000 from the state General Fund (state GF) in FY 2024 to the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) to distribute to the City of Phoenix for improvements on Happy Valley Road between 35th Avenue and 67th Avenue.
Background
ADOT is responsible for the design and construction of state public transportation systems and the maintenance and operation of state highways in Arizona (A.R.S. § 28-332). ADOT may contract and do all things necessary to secure the full benefits available to Arizona for transportation purposes under federal law. ADOT may cooperate with: 1) federal, state and local government agencies; 2) Indian tribes; 3) private and public organizations; and 4) private individuals. ADOT may exchange federal monies with local governments in order to receive local monies and may include additional federal monies in the exchange to offset the matching costs required of local governments (A.R.S. § 28-334).
Happy Valley Road, from 35th Avenue to 67th Avenue, is four miles long (Street Transportation Department).
H.B. 2569 appropriates $12,500,000 from the state GF in FY 2024 to ADOT to distribute to the City of Phoenix for improvements on Happy Valley Road between 35th Avenue and 67th Avenue.
Provisions
1. Appropriates $12,500,000 from the state GF in FY 2024 to ADOT to distribute to the City of Phoenix for improvements on Happy Valley Road between 35th Avenue and 67th Avenue.
2. Declares the Legislature's intent that:
a) ADOT use any federal monies available for the project to supplement the appropriated monies; and
b) the City of Phoenix contribute $14,800,000 to the project.
3. Becomes effective on the general effective date.
