appropriation; DPS; standby pay

Purpose

Appropriates $9,400,000 from the state General Fund (GF) to the Department of Public Safety (DPS) in FY 2024 to pay the cost of standby pay for DPS employees.

Background

DPS is responsible for creating and coordinating services for use by local law enforcement agencies in protecting the public safety and for formulating plans with a view to establish modern services for prevention of crime, apprehension of violators, training of law enforcement personnel and the promotion of public safety. The department consists of the following divisions: 1) Arizona Highway Patrol; 2) Narcotics Enforcement and Criminal Investigation; 3) Scientific Criminal Analysis; 4) Training and Education; and 5) Major Incident Division (A.R.S. §§ 41-1711 and
41-1712).

H.B. 2760 appropriates $9,400,000 from the state GF to DPS in FY 2024.

Provisions

1.   Appropriates $9,400,000 from the state GF to DPS in FY 2024 to pay the cost of standby pay for DPS employees.

2.   Specifies that the Legislature intends for this appropriation to be considered ongoing in future years.

3.   Becomes effective on the general effective date.
